Ingredients
- 18cm round chocolate cake
- Chocolate frosting
- 700g blue fondant
- Red fondant
- White fondant
- Black fondant
- Cornstarch and powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Dark chocolate or black edible food marker
- Edible glue or water
Instructions
- Apply a thin layer of chocolate frosting over the chilled cake to create a crumb coat, then refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the red fondant and cut out the Spiderman mask shape, then prepare the eyes from white and black fondant.
- Using melted dark chocolate or a food marker, draw a web pattern starting from the center of the red mask and let it set in the fridge.
- Roll out the blue fondant, drape it over the chilled cake, smooth the sides, and trim any excess at the base.
- Affix the red mask to the center of the blue cake using edible glue or water, then add the eye pieces on top.
Notes
To ensure a perfectly smooth finish, use a fondant smoother or a small piece of excess fondant to gently buff out any ridges on the surface of the cake. If the weather is particularly humid, avoid refrigerating the cake once the fondant is applied to prevent condensation from making the colors bleed.
