Description

Experience the simple joy of a dessert that practically makes itself with this Cherry Dump Cake. Layers of tangy pineapple and sweet cherries are topped with a buttery, nut-studded cake crust for a warm, bubbly treat that is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces crushed pineapple (with juice)
  • 20 ounces cherry pie filling
  • 1 package yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Spread the crushed pineapple and its juice into an even layer at the bottom of the pan, then pour the cherry pie filling directly over the pineapple.
  3. Sprinkle the package of yellow cake mix evenly over the fruit layer, making sure not to stir the ingredients together.
  4. Scatter the chopped pecans over the dry cake mix and top with thin slices of butter, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  5. Bake for 1 hour until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling, then let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

To ensure a perfectly even crust, try to cover as much of the dry cake mix as possible with the butter slices. If you are serving a large crowd, this recipe is easily doubled by using two pans and doubling all ingredients.
