Ingredients
- 2 boxes triple chocolate cake mix
- Whole milk (replaces water in cake mix instructions)
- Eggs (as required by cake mix boxes)
- Unsalted butter, softened and divided
- Brown sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- All-purpose flour
- Powdered sugar
- Mini chocolate chips
- Heavy cream, divided
- Oreo cookies, crushed and whole
- Sky blue gel food coloring
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Mini Chips Ahoy cookies
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 C) and prepare three 9-inch round cake pans with baking spray.
- Whisk together the cake mix, milk, butter, and eggs until smooth, then divide the batter between the pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until cooled.
- Cream together butter and brown sugar for the filling, then mix in vanilla, salt, flour, and powdered sugar until smooth, folding in the mini chocolate chips last.
- Prepare the Oreo buttercream by whipping butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, and heavy cream until fluffy, then fold in crushed Oreos and blue gel food coloring.
- Make the ganache by pouring heated heavy cream over semi-sweet chocolate chips and whisking until glossy and smooth.
- Layer the cakes with the cookie dough frosting between them, then cover the entire exterior with blue Oreo buttercream.
- Apply the chocolate drip around the edges, press mini Chips Ahoy around the base, and use whole Oreos and blue frosting swirls to create the character’s facial features.
Notes
For the best results, ensure your flour for the cookie dough filling is heat-treated to ensure safety before mixing. If your blue frosting color is too light, add the gel coloring one drop at a time until you reach the desired intensity, as gel is highly concentrated. Always assemble your cake on a cold surface to keep the frosting stable during the decorating process.
