Ingredients
- Strawberry cake batter for three layers or two boxes of cake mix
- Unsalted butter, softened
- Cream cheese, softened
- Dehydrated strawberries, finely crushed
- Powdered sugar
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla extract
- Pink food coloring
- Clean fashion doll
- Plastic wrap
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease one 9-inch bundt pan and two 6-inch round cake pans.
- Fill the pans two-thirds full with batter and bake until a toothpick comes out clean, approximately 25-30 minutes for the rounds and 35-40 minutes for the bundt.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Level the bottom of the bundt cake and use a small circular cutter to remove the centers of the 6-inch rounds to create a channel for the doll.
- Stack the bundt cake on a base, top with the two 6-inch rounds using frosting between layers, and use a serrated knife to shave the sides into a smooth bell shape.
- Combine butter, cream cheese, and crushed strawberries to create a crumb coat, spread it over the cake, and chill for one hour to set.
- Whip the remaining butter with powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla to create the final frosting, then divide and tint into varying shades of pink.
- Wrap the doll’s legs in plastic, insert her into the cake center, and pipe a gradient of rosettes from dark pink at the base to light pink or white at the waist.
Notes
To ensure the most stable structure, chill your cake layers in the refrigerator for at least two hours before carving the dress shape. If you find the frosting becoming too soft while piping the rosettes, place the piping bag in the fridge for five minutes to help the designs hold their shape.
