Description

This festive Grinch Cake features tender vanilla-flavored green layers with a secret red heart hidden inside every slice. Topped with a fluffy, homemade green buttercream and whimsical fondant decorations, it is the perfect centerpiece for any holiday celebration.


Ingredients

  • Cake Flour
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Egg Whites
  • Whole Milk
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Baking Powder
  • Salt
  • Red Gel Food Coloring
  • Green Gel Food Coloring
  • Fondant (Green, Yellow, Red)
  • Powdered Sugar


Instructions

  1. Roll out green, yellow, and red fondant to shape the Grinch’s hand and fingers, using skewers for support, and set aside to dry.
  2. Cream butter and sugar for the red cake, mix in egg whites and vanilla, then add dry ingredients and red food coloring before baking in a square pan.
  3. Once cooled, cut heart shapes out of the red cake using a cookie cutter.
  4. Mix the green cake batter by combining dry ingredients and butter, then slowly adding a mixture of milk, egg whites, vanilla, and green gel food coloring.
  5. Place red hearts upright in a circle inside cake pans with a little green batter, then pour the remaining batter over them to cover.
  6. Bake the green layers until firm, cool completely, and prepare a buttercream by whipping butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and egg whites.
  7. Frost the cake with green buttercream, add textured details with a piping bag, and place the fondant hand on top.

Notes

For the cleanest cut and most defined hidden heart, ensure the red cake is completely cooled or even slightly chilled before using the cookie cutter. When assembling, make sure the hearts are placed tightly against each other in the pan to ensure every slice of the final cake contains a perfect heart shape.
