Description

Create a magical tropical celebration with this easy-to-assemble Moana cake featuring edible biscuit sand and blue buttercream waves. It is a stress-free way to make a professional-looking character cake that kids will absolutely adore.

Ingredients

  • 3 layers of vanilla cake
  • 3 to 4 batches of buttercream icing
  • 1 cup strawberry jam
  • 1 cup crushed biscuits (Granita, digestives, or graham crackers)
  • Blue food coloring
  • Moana-themed cake toppers and toy sea animals
  • Chocolate fingers
  • Piping bag

Instructions

  1. Secure the first cake layer to a large tray or cake board using five small blobs of buttercream as glue.
  2. Spread a layer of strawberry jam over the first layer, leaving a 1cm border, then top with a layer of buttercream.
  3. Repeat the process with the second cake layer and place the third cake layer on top.
  4. Apply a thin crumb coat of white buttercream over the top and sides, then refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
  5. Mix blue food coloring into two-thirds of the remaining buttercream and spread it in a wavy pattern for the ocean, leaving a white space for the beach.
  6. Press crushed biscuits into the white icing area to create sand and finish by adding toppers and chocolate finger decorations.

Notes

Ensure your cake layers are completely chilled before starting the assembly process to prevent them from sliding. If you do not have a piping bag, a zip-top bag with a corner snipped off works perfectly for filling the layers and creating the ocean waves.
