Description

Ingredients

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • Water, oil, and eggs (as required by the cake mix box)
  • Zest of 1 fresh lemon
  • 1 (8-ounce) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 2 pints fresh strawberries, sliced


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to the directions on the cake mix package and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the yellow cake mix as directed on the box, folding in the fresh lemon zest at the end of the mixing process.
  3. Bake the cake in the prepared pan according to package instructions, then remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
  4. Once fully cooled, spread the thawed whipped topping in an even layer across the entire surface of the cake.
  5. Decorate the cake to look like a flag by placing blueberries in a rectangular block in the top-left corner and arranging sliced strawberries in horizontal rows to create the red stripes.
