Description

Spoil your furry friend with this charming, minimalist dog cake made from wholesome pantry staples like oats, banana, and peanut butter. It is a simple, one-bowl recipe that bakes up tender and beautiful, perfect for birthdays or any special celebration.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oat flour (ground whole oats)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 carrot, finely grated
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (no xylitol)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two 4-inch cake tins with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the oat flour and baking powder to remove any lumps.
  3. Add the mashed banana, grated carrot, peanut butter, and egg to the bowl, stirring until the mixture is just combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared tins and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  6. Whisk together the Greek yogurt, extra peanut butter, and cornstarch until smooth, then spread the frosting between the cake layers and over the top.

Notes

Always double-check that your peanut butter does not contain xylitol, as it is highly toxic to dogs. If you want a stiffer frosting that holds its shape better for decorating, you can strain the Greek yogurt through a paper towel or cheesecloth for 30 minutes to remove excess liquid before mixing.
