Description

These festive chocolate cupcakes use a box mix for a stress-free dessert that is perfect for summer holidays. They feature a marbled blue and white frosting and patriotic star sprinkles for a classic, crowd-pleasing look.


Ingredients

  • 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 Large Egg
  • Vegetable Oil (amount as specified on cake mix box)
  • Water (amount as specified on cake mix box)
  • 1 tub White Buttercream Icing
  • Blue Food Coloring
  • Patriotic Sprinkles (red, white, and blue stars)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and place paper liners into a cupcake tin.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, egg, oil, and water, stirring until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared liners, filling each halfway, and bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
  4. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
  5. Divide the white icing into two bowls, tinting one with blue food coloring, then microwave each for 10 seconds to soften.
  6. Pipe a swirl of both blue and white frosting onto each cupcake and finish with a dusting of patriotic sprinkles.
