Description

These delightful red velvet cake pops combine a moist, cocoa-rich cake base with a smooth, crisp candy coating. Perfect for parties and holidays, this easy-to-follow recipe turns a simple boxed mix into professional-quality treats that look and taste incredible.

Ingredients

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup creamy vanilla frosting
  • 12 ounces white candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon melting aid chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter. Combine eggs, cake mix, oil, and water in a large bowl, whisking until smooth before baking according to package directions.
  2. Cool the cake. Let the baked cake cool completely to room temperature on a wire rack, then trim off the dark, dry outer edges.
  3. Create fine crumbs. Break the cake into chunks and rub the pieces together with your hands until you have fine, uniform crumbs.
  4. Bind with frosting. Knead the frosting into the cake crumbs until the mixture reaches a pliable, clay-like consistency that holds its shape.
  5. Shape into spheres. Use a scoop to portion the mixture and roll each piece firmly between your palms to form smooth, round balls.
  6. Secure the sticks. Dip the tip of each paper stick into melted candy and insert it halfway into each cake sphere.
  7. Chill the pops. Place the skewered treats in the freezer for fifteen minutes to firm them up for dipping.
  8. Dip and coat. Melt the candy coating with the melting aid, then submerge each chilled treat, tapping off the excess to ensure a smooth finish.
  9. Decorate and set. Stand the pops upright in foam to set, drizzling with extra red candy if desired before allowing them to harden completely.

Notes

  • Ensure the cake is completely cooled before crumbling to prevent the mixture from becoming gummy.
  • Tap the stick gently against your wrist to remove excess coating instead of tapping the treat itself to keep the cake secure.
  • Wipe away any condensation from the pops after removing them from the freezer to prevent the candy coating from clumping.
  • Avoid freezing for longer than fifteen minutes to prevent the chilled core from expanding and cracking the outer shell.
