Description

A vibrant and moist summer dessert featuring a fluffy white cake infused with colorful red and blue fruit flavors. Perfect for holiday celebrations, this easy-to-make treat is topped with a light whipped frosting and festive sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (16.25 oz) white cake mix, plus ingredients required on the box
  • 1 package (3 oz) Berry Blue Jell-O
  • 1 package (3 oz) Cherry Jell-O
  • 2 cups boiling water, divided
  • 1 cup cold water, divided
  • 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed
  • Red and blue liquid food coloring
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare and bake the white cake mix in a 9×13 inch pan according to the package directions, then allow it to cool completely.
  2. Using a straw or the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes across the entire surface of the cake about 1 inch apart, going deep but not hitting the bottom.
  3. In separate small bowls, dissolve the Berry Blue and Cherry Jell-O powders each in 1 cup of boiling water.
  4. Stir 1/2 cup of cold water into each Jell-O mixture to create a concentrated liquid.
  5. Carefully pour the blue Jell-O into designated holes and the red Jell-O into the remaining holes to create a festive pattern.
  6. Refrigerate the cake for at least 3 to 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the gelatin to set within the cake.
  7. Spread the thawed whipped topping evenly over the surface of the chilled cake.
  8. For a final touch, swirl red and blue food coloring into the topping using a toothpick and add patriotic sprinkles before serving.

Notes

For the best visual impact, use a wide straw to ensure the holes are large enough for the Jell-O to seep in deeply. If you are preparing this for an outdoor party, keep the cake refrigerated until the moment of serving to ensure the whipped topping stays light and fluffy in the heat.
