Ingredients
- 2 cans strawberry pie filling
- 2 boxes yellow cake mix
- 1 block (8 oz) cream cheese, cubed
- 1 cup butter, melted
- Whipped cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking dish.
- Spread the strawberry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared dish.
- Sprinkle the first box of yellow cake mix evenly over the strawberry layer.
- Dot the cubed cream cheese across the surface of the cake mix.
- Sprinkle the second box of yellow cake mix over the cream cheese and first cake layer.
- Pour the melted butter slowly over the top, covering as many dry spots of the mix as possible.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the top is set and the filling is bubbling at the edges.
- Allow the cake to rest on a wire rack for 10 minutes before serving with whipped cream.
Notes
To ensure a perfectly golden crust, try to distribute the melted butter as evenly as possible; if you see large dry spots of cake mix, you can gently press them down with a spoon to help the butter absorb. Using chilled cream cheese makes it much easier to cut into uniform cubes that will hold their shape better during the initial phase of baking. For a firmer, more fudge-like cheesecake texture, try chilling the cake overnight and serving it cold the next day.
