Ingredients
- 1 store-bought angel food cake, torn into 1-inch pieces
- 1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 12 oz whipped topping, thawed
- 1 (3 oz) package strawberry gelatin powder
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, whisk together 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, strawberry gelatin powder, lemon juice, and water.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches a boil and becomes thick and clear, then remove from heat and cool completely.
- Gently fold the sliced strawberries into the cooled glaze until well coated.
- In a large bowl, combine the torn angel food cake pieces with 2 cups of the whipped topping, then press firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch glass baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla until smooth; fold in the remaining whipped topping and spread evenly over the cake layer.
- Pour the strawberry glaze mixture over the cream layer and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours to allow the dessert to set and the flavors to develop.
