Description

This classic, comforting dessert features a golden, crispy topping that rises through sweet, syrupy peaches for a perfect homemade treat. With minimal prep time and pantry-friendly ingredients, it is the ideal quick fix for any dessert craving.

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 29 ounces sliced peaches in heavy syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish, letting it melt in the oven until bubbly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon, then stir in the milk and vanilla until just combined.
  3. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish without stirring, then top with the entire can of peaches and their syrup without stirring.
  4. Bake for 50 minutes until the top is golden brown, then allow to cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, ensure you do not stir the batter once it has been poured over the butter, as this layering process creates the cobbler’s signature texture. Using the syrup from the canned peaches is essential for the moisture and sweetness of the final dish. If you notice the top browning too quickly, loosely covering the pan with foil for the final few minutes of baking will help prevent burning.
